A link timeline for multiple locations, week by week

Expectations decide whether a multi-town plan survives its first quiet month. Here is a calm schedule, with the waiting built in.

The only honest promise is a schedule

We cannot tell you the week a town page will move. Nobody can. What we can offer is the order of work and the length of the pauses between steps, which is where most plans quietly fail.

A link timeline for multiple locations has to run several towns in parallel but stagger them, otherwise you learn nothing about which change did what. This schedule assumes three priority towns and a budget set beforehand, as in the budget examples. Keep it tidy.

Twelve weeks, three towns

  1. Baseline

Export 90 days of page data from Search Console. Note impressions, clicks and average position for each town page. Save the file with the date.

  2. Fix the pages

Add the town-specific facts, repair broken internal links and confirm each URL is indexed. No links yet.

  3. Town A basket

Add two or three placements aimed at Town A's page. Review the total. Pay, then record each order in ordered links.

  4. Town A goes live

Placements usually appear within about 24 hours of payment. Open each one and confirm the link and the anchor.

  5. Town B basket

Stagger the second town by two weeks so any movement can be traced to one change at a time.

  6. Quiet fortnight

Change nothing. Crawlers revisit pages on their own schedule and the data is still thin.

  7. Town C basket and first review

Compare Town A against its baseline. Flat is a valid result, and so is a small rise.

  8. Decide

Keep funding what moved, hold what did not, and pick the next towns from the waiting list.

What to log every Monday

  • Impressions and clicks for each town page
  • Orders placed and their go-live dates
  • Any page edits made that week
  • Any known Google update dates
  • Calls or enquiries from each town, from your own phone log

Why the waiting weeks are part of the plan

Weeks seven and eight look empty on the schedule. They are not. Google revisits pages on its own rhythm, and a town page with little traffic may be recrawled less often than your homepage.

If you edit the page, add a second link and reorder the menu in that window, you cannot tell afterwards what helped. Patience here is a method. It is also the cheapest part of the plan.

Use the quiet time to improve a town you have not funded yet, following the city page fixes. That work will not confuse the data for the towns already in play, and it prepares the next basket well before you need it. Good use of a pause.

What each result usually means

Impressions rose, clicks flat

The page is being shown more but the title or snippet is not winning the click. Look at the page before buying more.

Nothing moved at week eight

Check indexing first, then content, then rivals. A link is rarely the only missing piece, and a second round on a weak page rarely fixes it.

Calls rose but rankings did not

Referral traffic from a good article can bring visitors on its own. Count enquiries from your phone log, not only positions.
